Allergens & dietary

Everyone gets to have something.

Nobody should have to sit a round out because of their body. That is most of the reason the menu is built the way it is: vegan gelato in the cabinet rather than in a tub out the back, gluten-free cones kept to hand, and codes on every single item so you can decide for yourself instead of asking three times.

And if it isn’t clear, ask us. We would far rather have the conversation than have you guess.

Reading the menu

Two questions, never squashed into one.

Most menus give you a single string of letters and leave you to work out which half is the good news. Ours are split. What an item is suitable for sits on the left. What it contains sits on the right. The dot between them is doing real work.

It matters because the two are not opposites. Something can be vegetarian and gluten-free and still contain the thing you are avoiding, and that is exactly the item people get caught by.

What we do about it

Made here, so we know what is in it.

We make it ourselves
The gelato is churned in-house by Maria and her team, in small batches. We know what goes in it because we put it there.
Every item is coded
Not just the gelato. Cones, waffles, doughs, sauces, drinks and the add-ons all carry codes, on the board and on this site.
Suitable and contains stay apart
They are different questions and we never merge them into one line. See below.
Alternative milks cost nothing extra
Oat, soya, coconut, almond. We have never charged for them and we are not going to start.
The team is trained on it
Ask anyone behind the counter. If they are not certain, they will go and check rather than guess.

Being straight with you

What we cannot promise.

A page that only tells you the good bits is not much use to someone with a serious allergy. So here is the rest of it.

  • Both parlours are small kitchens handling nuts, milk, gluten, soya, eggs and sesame. We take care, but we cannot guarantee that any item is free from traces of an allergen.
  • Recipes and suppliers change. We keep the codes current, but the board in the shop is the final word, not this page.
  • A scoop sits next to other scoops in an open cabinet. If an allergy is severe, that matters, and we would rather say so than let you find out.

If you have a serious allergy, talk to the team in the parlour before you order. They know what changed this morning. A website does not.

Cakes, carts and parties

Tell us when you order, not on the day.

Gelato cakes

Say what the allergy is when you place the order, not at collection. We will tell you honestly if we cannot make it safely and most of the time we can.

The cart

Menu and allergen signage travels with it to every event, and we always bring a vegan flavour. Tell us about guests’ allergies when you book and we will plan the four flavours around them.

Parties in the parlour

Put it on the booking form. It reaches the team running your session rather than sitting in an inbox, and nobody has to have the conversation in front of the whole party.

Just ask

No question is a daft one.

Send it over before you come and we will have the answer ready, or call the Warlingham parlour and someone will walk the cabinet with you. The full legal wording lives in our terms.
